Title: Understanding interprofessional collaboration between nurses and
physiotherapist within the Ontario healthcare system
General Description: The purpose of this paper is to write a concise scholarly
paper that will examine and analyze interprofessional collaboration, and
specifically an alternative professional role within the Ontario health care system.
The paper will also discuss how the role of nursing works within the larger
framework of the interprofessional team in healthcare.
You will select one of the health care professionals from this list below as your
focus for the paper: (feel free to select any of this that you’re comfortable
with)
Dietician
Occupational therapist
Personal support worker
Pharmacist
Physiotherapist
Respiratory therapist
Social worker
There are 3 components to the paper:
1) In the first section you will discuss the significance of interprofessional
collaboration, specifically identify the difference between intra-professional
and inter-professional collaboration, (use the readings from the course
textbook found below in this section). What are the roles and responsibilities
of this member (chosen above) in the healthcare setting? Are they a
regulated healthcare provider and, if so, by what body are they regulated by?

2) In this next section, you will examine the foundation of practice for this team
member in the general sense and contrast it with nursing. You will compare and
contrast the essential competencies/standards of practice between nursing and the
chosen healthcare professional. You will additionally discuss and reflect on the
scope of practice of each of the two professions. Please note that appropriate
citations (2 in total) are expected from the CNO and respective College of the
chosen practitioner. (~1 – 1 1/2 pages)
3) In the final section, you will discuss how the roles of the two professions work
together to achieve positive patient outcomes in the general sense. You will need to
obtain >1 scholarly article to support your discussion of the chosen practitioner.
Please note that the scholarly article needs to be from a peer-reviewed journal,
written within the past 10 years. (~1/2 – 1 page)
Additional Writing Requirements:
• Written clearly, logically and coherently with close attention paid to correct
English grammar and spelling. This will count for marks in the paper.
• Papers should be typed, double-spaced, using 12-point font, have 1" (2.5 cm)
margins on all sides and be on 8.5 x 11" (letter sized) white paper. The paper
should include a cover page with a title, your name, student number, course name
and number, professor’s name and date, as per APA, 7th ed. Each paper should
include a reference list of all references used for the paper and adhere to APA, 7 th
Edition.
• Papers must be within the page limit – max. 3 pages. Page limit excludes title and
reference pages.
