Patient Nurse Educator role: practicum in patient education at a health facility
No sources need to be referenced.
I am completing a practicum in patient education at a health facility. As a nurse I have been asked to write 3 Objectives for myself as a Patient Nurse Educator role. I am not currently at the bedside teaching, however I am looking at systems to enhance healthcare with my preceptor. So the objectives are for me as a masters degree student seeking knowledge in Patient Education outcomes. Describe the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values to be acquired by the learner(me). Refer to the website resources relating to Bloom’s Taxonomy for writing objectives. The majority of the objectives should be written at the application level or higher. Indicate the core competency being addressed. Please make the objective measurable. Write your specific learning objectives based on the Nursing 616 course objectives below.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student will:
1. Demonstrate advanced understanding of the scientific and theoretical foundations of nursing, education, and/or administration applicable to the role of nurse educator or administrator. (SLO 1, 9)
2. Integrate professionalism and leadership in developing effective working relationships within intra- and inter-professional teams with the goal of promoting safe, high quality, patient-centered care. (SLO 2, 7)
3. Incorporate knowledge of core competencies for the nurse executive or academic nurse educator that directly or indirectly influences healthcare outcomes for individuals, populations, or systems. (SLO 9)
4. Develop evidence-based strategies to resolve education or practice problems. (SLO 4)
SLO = Student Learning Outcome
The completed plan will serve as a guide for the semester’s activities during your practicum experience. Be sure that your objectives reflect the core competencies for the academic nurse educator. For each objective, indicate the core competency being reflected. The Student Learning Plan should be very specific and leave no doubt about what the student wants to accomplish, what will be done to accomplish it, and how to determine whether or not it has been accomplished.
Use Bloom’s Taxonomy New Version as a guide when writing learning objectives. Objectives should be written at the four higher levels (applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating).
