Comparison between the healthcare systems in the US and Switzerland
Health care system is the organisation of people, institutions, and resources that deliver health care services to meet the health needs of the population (WHO, 2000) Each nation has developed its own health care system. In this essay the focus is the comparison of different health care systems between the united states of America and Switzerland
On March 23rd, 2010 the Congress passed the affordable care act, it generally stated that there will be an existing plan for those who have been uninsured for the last six months due to a pre-existing condition that may require specialised or hospital care. There shall be free access to preventative care programmes such as cancer screening, test for diabetes and high blood pressure and vaccinations among others (US govt 2012). Under this act there was a requirement that everyone must purchase health insurance by 2014 anyone without it will be subject to fine. Due to these drastic changes, the taxes in the United States were increased
Both countries have different forms of healthcare systems. By which the Swiss have high-quality health care at a very cost compared to the U.S. In the U.S most insurances are profit based companies, but in Switzerland most, the coverages are not based on profit (Langlois, Haines, Tomson, & Ghaffar, 2016). The Swiss insurance policy is generally comprehensive as compared to the U.S which is consumer driven; the similarities are; that the affordable care act in the United States is like the Swiss health care system. Both plans include that individual mandates and competition among private insurers. Each country desires that there is universal coverage of every person with the inclusion of private insurers.
