week 8 discussion cesar, support the argument

When I decided to become a nurse the concept of caring was the first thing I evaluated since, to me, caring is the primal value a nurse must have in order to perform as a professional. Watson’s value system reflect what all nurses should practice: respect for human life, its mysteries and wonders (Watson, 2012). It is easy to study the caring theory, but it is hard to apply it since humans, per definition, are beings that protect themselves before protecting others. The human caring theory, in my opinion, promotes the values that almost two thousand years in the past were preached by Jesus of Nazareth: “Nobody love more than the one how give himself for his friends”. To me, at it is to Watson, the caring process includes a better self-knowledge, and the act of helping others will necessarily lead to self-care (Watson, 2012) since we, the nurses do not differentiate between self-wellbeing and our patient’s wellbeing; therefore nursing should be seen as a science that also is an art because a lot of studies are required to achieve a higher knowledge of human behavior and, at the same time, compassion is inborn to nurses, and is the key factor in the carative factors of nursing care (Watson, 2012).
Leaders, in the healthcare environment must be promoters of the advancing of human caring science as a tool for the delivery of better patient’s centered care (Rossillo, 2018). Embracing the organization’s values is just the starting point of nursing leadership, but it also includes the implementation of those inner values of care that will enhance the patient’s outcome, and return to health and wellbeing. The use of the concept “Caritas” is essential to the future of nursing practice (Rossillo, 2018). The relationship between love and caring is crucial in the process of healing of self and others (Smith & Parker, 2015). Leaders must be the first actors in the implementation of this concept as essential part of the patient’s healing process. Altruism, instillation of hope, provision of a supportive environment, among others, are the values that a nursing leader must promote among their crew in order to enhance the caring of their patients, thus, their good outcome (Smith & Parker, 2015). Nursing from the heart was my motivation when I first started on this path, enhancing my knowledge and skills are aimed to provide the best possible care, not only to my patients, but also to my colleagues and myself.
Sincerely
Cesar Almanza
