The artifacts of Edgar Schein’s levels model of organizational culture deals with any identifiable elements in an organization. A good example of artifacts would be the dress code and the appropriate use of office jokes. It is very important to have a company dress code as employees would have to look presentable at work which would eliminate in potential sexual harassment or bullying. Artifacts behavior is very important in the organizational culture. Espoused values are organizational stated values and rules that all employees should follow. A good example of espoused values would be the way that employees carry and conduct themselves at work. Employees should conduct themselves in a professional manner. Basic underlying assumptions are integrated in the organizational environment of which taken-for-granted behaviors are natural and unconscious to people. An organization with a history of success are usually unaware of different types of beliefs and assumptions about what to do and how to do (Schein, 2003). All three levels model of organizational culture are important for the organization and the leaders of the organization. The leaders of the organization can build off the three levels model and become more aware of the assumptions knowing these three models. These three can be used to assess the organization and maybe even improve of the culture of the organization.
