Course description:
Instructional and evaluation stratagies. examination and evaluation of the concepts and methods of measurement and evaluation of learning in nursing education. Emphasis on developing, scoring, analyzing and evaluating various assessment techniques.
Course Overview:
An examination of the principles and practices of assessment and the roles of assessment of learning outcomes in the instructional process. The student will develop a plan for systemic assessment, prepare assessment instruments and analyze assessment instruments for validity and reliability. Other topics will include critical thinking tests, test banks and test development software.
Objectives of the course:
1. describe the concepts of measurement , evaluation and testing in nursing education.
2.elucidate the qualities of effective measurement instrument
3. plan for classroom testing, including writing test items, assembling and administering tests and analyzing test results
4. evaluate critical thinking and other higher level cognitive skills
5. illustrate the concepts of performance evaluation and assessment of critical competencies
6. Critique the social, ethical, and legal issues associated with evaluation and testing.
