Some goals should reflect higher cognitive learning levels in Bloom’s taxonomy.

My goal/s for this competency is/are to:

1. Engage faculty in discussions related to improvement of learning and utilization of technology to enhance student learning throughout the course.

2. Develop confidence and proficiency in teaching by continuing to enhance my expertise through practice and research at my disposal.

3. Develop leadership knowledge and skills through experience, mentorship, and collaboration starting now.

Resources and Strategies: What type of resources or strategies will you utilize to accomplish your learning goals?  Include both human and material resources.
The resources (human and material) and strategies I need to meet my weekly goal are:

1. Administrative support

2. Senior faculty

3. I will develop and pursue a plan for scholarly work and significant professional involvement.

4. Extended preceptorship for experience and seek mentorship from nurse leaders.

5. Commitment to teaching and continuing education when opportunities arise.

Measurement: How will you know that you have accomplished your learning goal(s)? What criteria will you use to measure this?
The criteria I will use to measure my goals are:

1. Engagement in research and reflection on my daily teaching practice will demonstrate my functioning as a change agent.

2. Collaboration with the administration to implement evidence-based teaching and learning strategies in the curriculum will demonstrate success.

3. Attending available preceptorship courses and attaining unlimited guidance and mentorship will demonstrate success.

Complete this section after you complete the weeks’ clinical. Evaluation: Did you meet your goal? What did you accomplish that you can use as evidence that you met your learning goals?

Did you meet your goal? Why or why not?

I believe I have not attained all my goals because this is an ongoing process. I will continue to evaluate individual outcomes and ensure nursing education in the institution remains current. So far I have managed to accept responsibilities associated with becoming a leader and I have participated in several preceptorship functions.

Reflect on Competency 6, analyzing your practicum experiences: Be sure to connect your experiences directly to the competency.
Reflection: Over the past years, there has been an increased interest in the understanding of teaching effectiveness in nursing education. Nurse educators should develop their skills and demonstrate good leadership to ensure the needs of the profession are met. For the past two weeks, I have been busy engaging faculty and listening to what they think about change in nursing education. It is the responsibility of the nurse leaders to ensure the instructors and students are well-equipped to deal with the challenging educational environment. Organizing meetings to discuss ongoing issues and providing solutions to observed challenges is the role of nurse leaders. I believe I am adequately prepared to be part of the leadership team and through participation in development courses, I can sharpen my skills and become a better leader.
