Weeks

Nurse Educator Competency 3: Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies.
  Learner Name:    Date(s):
Complete this section before you begin the weeks’ clinical. Learning Goals: What do you want to accomplish for Competency 3: Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies?

Be sure your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound (S.M.A.R.T. goals).

Some goals should reflect higher cognitive learning levels in Bloom’s taxonomy.

My goal/s for this competency is/are to:

1. Assess students’ learning using formative, objective, and summative assessments before the end of the course.

2. Provide additional resources and summaries to assist students to evaluate their learning during the course.

3. Provide sufficient feedback to assignments and student postings in a timely manner.

4. Establish a schedule for prompt grading and return of assignments to students.

Resources and Strategies: What type of resources or strategies will you utilize to accomplish your learning goals?  Include both human and material resources.
The resources (human and material) and strategies I need to meet my weekly goal are:

1. Assessing program outcomes to guide in formulating assessment questions.

2. Evaluate and assess the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning.

3. Self-reflection in setting SMART goals by incorporating nursing values.

4. Lesson plan

5. Course learning resources

6. Access to online learning platforms

7. Information technology team

Measurement: How will you know that you have accomplished your learning goal(s)? What criteria will you use to measure this?
The criteria I will use to measure my goals are:

1. Timely administration of assessments to students. I will know I adequately prepared for assessments if I can be able to finish setting student tests on time and administer them according to the course schedule.

2. The students’ performances will demonstrate adequate preparation by the instructor and administration of tests based on the course objectives.

3. Self-assessment feedback from the students will indicate if the instructor provided adequate learning resources and communicated students’ performance in a timely manner.

Complete this section after you complete the weeks’ clinical. Evaluation: Did you meet your goal? What did you accomplish that you can use as evidence that you met your learning goals?

Did you meet your goal? Why or why not?

Yes, I met my goals. I know I met my goals because I was able to formulate assessments based on the course objectives. Secondly, the majority of the students passed the assessments indicating that adequate preparation and resources were available to boost their performances.

Reflect on Competency 3, analyzing your practicum experiences: Be sure to connect your experiences directly to the competency.
Reflection: Meeting this competency was among the most difficult moments of this practicum. I found it challenging to identify the most appropriate formative, objective, and summative students’ assessments. I was pleased with the self-assessment response I got from the students and their good performance was a reflection of my adequate preparation and the use of appropriate assessment strategies.
