Directions: For this assignment you will complete a draft version of the Discharge Teaching Plan Research Paper.

The Discharge Teaching Plan should reflect the following: a health belief system, cultural influences on health and illness behaviors, biocultural variations considerations, communication patterns, language and traditions, developmental considerations, economics, education, kinship and social networks, spirituality factors, values orientation, as well as nursing knowledge related to principles of teaching/learning theory, critical thinking, nursing process, and safety.

You are required to use six (6) cited peer reviewed journal articles, referenced in APA, in addition to any other text references.

Be sure to include the following in your draft version:

1. Select a cultural group that you have a desire to learn more about. Identify a disease process or disorder that is prevalent in the culture chosen.

2. Develop the plan to teach the following:

How to manage a disease process
How and when to take medication used to treat the disease/disorder
Activity level and/or restrictions
Nutritional needs
Criteria for notifying or following-up with the physician

3. Obtain or develop teaching aides/interpreter notations for limited English proficiency patients.

4. Develop any handouts for the patient to assure knowledge retention and for home reference.

5. In addition to the above, provide a written summary of the target cultural group and how your plan works with the concept of dual ethnocentrism and avoidance of cultural biases or ethnocentric attitudes.
