Chile

Cold war played a key role on decision makers’ interventions in Chile and Guatemala. For instance in Guatemala a dictatorial rule of Ubico and the successor whom he had chosen were overthrown by a military coup. There afterwards they handed over leadership to civilians where Professor Juan Jose Arevalo was elected unopposed. This leader brought to halt the dictatorial rule in the country. He was a socialist and believed that government could help improve people’s lives. He was very much against communism which he believed was not in line with the nature of mankind. This was evident when he passed the social security law.

However when he enforced a major labor code law United States government thought that its master mind was a communist which was not true according to an official of U.S. embassy who cleared the air about it. Also his successor Arbenz never supported communism although he legalized a communist party. The accusation of communism led to the U.S. government planning to overthrow the government of Guatemala by supporting the government rebel soldiers although the main reason was due to threat it posed to America’s economy.

Therefore the American government as a decision maker was not accurate about her accusation of the Guatemala being a communist led country. In Chile the U.S. tried to get rid of the president elect Allende from power. This president was a socialist. The U.S. intervened his ousting from power on basis of him non-democracy which was not really true. The main reason was because the democracy in Chilean government under Allende did not support the policies of American government.

The American government was not accurate about the communist threat in Chile because the leader himself was a socialist and never advocated for communism this was so because many groups who were tasked with the duty to investigate any allegations which could support the communist system contrary came up with a report which was contrary.
