an Implementation Plan for the final EBP
This week you will be creating an Implementation Plan that will be attached to your final EBP. For the discussion board this week—outline your implementation steps 1-2-3.
My PICOT question is: In geriatric patients (P), how is the mental status examination (I) is more effective than clinical observation (C) at preventing loneliness and boredom (O) during the patient assessment (T)?
Lessons below:
There are multiple models of Implementation of EBP–Commonalities Found in these Models include:
• Identifying a problem that needs addressing
• Identifying stakeholders or change agents who will help make the change happen in practice
• Identifying a practice change shown to be effective through high-quality research that is designed to address the problem
• Identifying and, if possible, addressing the potential barriers to the practice change
• Using effective strategies to disseminate information about the practice change to those implementing it
• Implementing the practice change
• Evaluating the impact of the practice change on structure, process, and outcome measures
• Identifying activities that will help sustain the change in practice
Implementation of EBP must include the following considerations:
• Patient preference, Evidence, Clinical Expertise
• Research evidence needs to be considered in light of patients’ concerns and preferences as filtered through clinical expertise
• Evidence must be used in light of the interpretations of the patient’s concerns, history, family and cultural context, and disease trajectory as well as the reliability and validity of the existing research evidence
Studies have found that resistance to accepting EBP is declining; however, factors that still influence EBP implementation include:
• Beliefs and attitudes about EBP
• Knowledge about EBP
• Organizational commitment to EBP
• Organizational support for EBP
• An organizational culture responsive to change
• Support of EBP ideas/initiatives
Interventions Vital to Consistent Implementation of EBP
• EBP education combined with active repetitive skills building
• EBP mentorship and support
• A culture and an environment that supports EBP
• Leaders and managers who support and role model EBP
• Strategies that overcome system barriers to EBP
Components That Need to Be Considered in the Clinical Decision-Making Model of EBP
• Patient preferences and behaviors
• Clinical state, setting, and circumstances
• Availability of healthcare resources
• High-quality research evidence
Factors That Are Impacted by the Practitioner’s Clinical Expertise
• Quality of the initial assessment of the client’s clinical state and circumstances
• Problem formulation
• Decision about whether the best evidence and availability of healthcare resources support a new approach
• Exploration of patient preferences
• Delivery of the clinical intervention
• Evaluation of the outcome for that particular patient
