Summarizing the future of HIS and technology is a mighty task, but if we follow along with the themes of Chapter 12, we can track the types of changes in technologies and advancement of opportunities to improve health status, clinical outcomes, cost performance, and the outlook for our future in health care. The predominant change in HIS and technology going into the future is based on the fact that it is now ubiquitous: IT infrastructure is present in all aspects of our lives in an increasing number of forms, such as mobile devices, sensors, cell and smartphones, Internet access, Big Data analytics, personalized data, and other forms of technology and data.
