V. “Vas deferens” Slide Findings: At high power, the vas deferens shows the lumen filled with sperm and a portion of the deferens wall. The lining is a pseudostratified columnar epithelium with stereocilia, surrounded by smooth muscle. a. Locate and Label these bolded terms: -Lumen, -Sperm, -Pseudostratified columnar epithelium, -Smooth muscle Question 2: After the vas deferens, where does the sperm pass through? What gives sperm motility through the reproductive system? III. “Seminiferous Tubules” – Part II Slide Findings: At a higher power, the seminiferous epithelium are better resolved. Several mitotic figures are seen in the epithelium, representing formation of primary spermatocytes from spermatogonia. Through further meiotic divisions, spermatocytes develop into spermatids. The smaller cells with condensed round nuclei are the early spermatids undergoing maturation. Lining the lumen periphery are late spermatids in the last stages of development. Spermatids are characterized by narrow condensed nuclei and tails that extend into the lumen. Locate and Label these bolded terms: –Spermatogonium, -Spermatocyte, -Spermatid, -Sertoli cell b. VI. “Prostate Gland” Slide Findings: At high power, the epithelium of the secretory acini is visible, as are the prostatic concretions and the fibromuscular connective tissue. a. Locate and Label these bolded terms: -Simple columnar epithelium, -Lumen with prostatic secretion,-Fibromusclar connective tissue Pleso ond 0987 Question 3: What do prostatic secretions consist of? Where do the prostatic secretions get delivered to?
