Though you — the patient — are not presented as really or in distress it is good for us to have in mind what kind of mental/emotional/existential state a person is in when they seek medical care. I want you to get into that mental place for a bit. « Previous Next The purpose of medical ethics is to ask and answer questions about what is right or good when it comes to medical care and how to best frame social policies to insure that the right is done and we become good people. We will eventually turn to those questions but first we need to clarify some thoughts about what health and liness is within the experience of the human person. After all this is the arena in which bioethics functions. We don’t usually seek out a healthcare provider (doctor. dentist nurse, paramedic. pharmacist – just to name a few unless we have a medical need.
